As general editor Lewis Porter says in the introduction to The John Coltrane Reference: "We’re not done. There is no end to our passion for Coltrane. One or the other of us uncovers new information just about every week....". Fortunately, even though the book is now published and in the hands of the scholars and fans who share our passion, we can (and will) continue to share new information through this website.

Listed below are the updates so far available, listed in reverse chronological order by the date of posting (so return visitors can tell what's new). A separate index lists the updates by topic. We hope to post some additional indices and other tools which will make the book that much more useful. Click on the hyperlink to go to the item.

The five of us are having understandable difficulties in documenting the flood of reissues of readily available recordings which include Coltrane, particularly large (and expensive) boxsets. The pursuit of such information requires a lot of time and very deep pockets, and we and we are having difficulties keeping up. See the note below regarding the Reissues section. We welcome any help our readers can provide in documenting the details of such reissues.

As of August 2011 we've started compiling reissues (repackaging of previously released recordings) in a separate section, using an abbreviated format. These are cross-referenced in the Updates section with a link to the appropriate Reissues page. This project is in its initial stages and will always be in progress. See the Reissues introduction page for more details.
