This section contains the current results of an ongoing project to put an abbreviated John Coltrane discography online. Currently eight years are available (1960 through 1967), along with information about the Miles Davis Pasadena concert and the Peacock Alley sessions from 1956, as well as the Monk Carnegie Hall concert of 1957. (The limitations of this online discography are discussed in the Introduction). The information
is based on The Recordings of John Coltrane: A Discography (second edition, by David Wild, Ann Arbor, 1979, (c) 1977, 1978, 1979 by David Wild), with additions and corrections I've made over the years, along with some updated information from Jan Lohmann's The Sound of Miles Davis (1992) and Yasuhiro Fujioka's John Coltrane: A Discography and Musical Biography(1995), For a discussion, see the Introduction. Click Help in the table of contents above for instructions on the layout of this discography. (For a complete Coltrane discography and more, you'll have to wait for Giant Steps: The Ultimate John Coltrane Reference, by Yasuhiro Fujioka, Wolf Schmaler, Chris DeVito, David Wild and general editor Lewis Porter, due out in fall 2006).
